Adopt a pistachio tree from Sicily and receive your Panettone and other confectionery specialities at home!
#AdoptAPistachioTree. This is the name of the crowdfunding campaign that started on August 1st, to recover and rebuild an ancient Sicilian pistacchieto. A project created by the brothers of the Bonfissuto pastry shop in Canicattì (Agrigento). The name of the project is “Fustuq”: an Arabic term, later assimilated by the Sicilian dialect as “fastuca”, which indicates the pistachio.
On their Kickstarter page we can read that “For just over one year, we have invested resources and energies to move our production plants to a new area outside the town, in the countryside. We’ve chosen a place that immediately inspired us for its position, history and its surrounding lands devoted to the pistachio cultivation since ancient times. The building hosting our plants is surrounded by old trees producing the “fastuche” (Sicilian term for pistachios), which are precious ingredients for the production of our sweets.“
Vincenzo and Giulio Bonfissuto: talent and passion for the great Sicilian confectionery.
For more than a decade, we have been instilling our energies and resources into the research, experimentation and production of excellent Sicilian confectionery.
Due to our young age, the birth and development of our gastronomic project has no ‘distant’ roots; however, it is permeated with the thousand-year-old Sicilian confectionery tradition that we want to pass on and innovate, at the same time. We’re highly experienced in the restaurant industry and catering sector.
A mixture of enthusiasm and methodological rigour has led us to the creation of new recipes and preparations revisiting – without ‘offending’ – the heritage of the Sicilian pastry and some of the most traditional Italian bakery products such as the Panettone.
The constant and careful research of high quality Sicilian food products has brought us to rediscover excellent raw materials.
How does it work?
By giving your contribution to the Kickstarter campaign, depending on its size, you receive in exchange panettone, pastries, Modica chocolate and other products. You can also give the name to a pistachio tree.
“Thanks to your help, we want to create ‘your personal pistachio grove’ and buy, plant and cultivate 70 new pistachio trees that would enable us to produce high quality raw materials autonomously. New plants would allow us to meet our requirements and increase the potential of our pistachio-based confectionery production. “
