Aranci aranci, cu l’avi si li chianci | Sicilian Sayings
Once again we are back to talk about Sicilian proverbs, those which once provided rules of life for getting through the day! Today we are going to talk about a popular saying throughout the island.
Aranci aranci, cu l’avi si li chianci.
Oranges, oranges, whoever has them is crying for them.
The protagonist of this saying is one of the symbolic fruits of our beautiful island, oranges. But the fruit, in reality, has little to do with the meaning and oranges are used as a metaphor to say that those who have a problem, face it alone, find little participation from others.
Interesting, isn’t it? Have you ever heard this Sicilian saying? Let us know in the comments!
