Today’s proverb is one of those that show us a great truth, a real pearl of wisdom!
Ci voli ‘u ventu in chiesa, ma no ‘a astutari i cannili!
“You need the wind in church, but not so much as to blow out the candles!”
Have you ever heard it and wondered what is the real meaning behind this famous proverb? If we start from its literal translation, it is a fact that especially on the hottest days, it is good to let in a little wind to cool the air, being careful not to exaggerate. What this proverb wants to convey to you is to be careful with exaggerations, as they often have negative consequences (too much wind and the candles went out!).
What do you think about this Sicilian saying? Have you ever heard it or used it? Let us know in the comments!
I love the language but don’t speak it. My mom was Sicilian, I loved to hear her speak it. This really warms my heart. Thank you ❤️🥰🙏🏻
