Earthquake in Sicily: The tale of a survivor

The Belice earthquake in 1968 was one of the most disastrous events in the history of Sicily. 14 towns were hit and devastated in just one night, with four villages, Gibellina, Salaparuta, Montevago and Poggioreale, completely destroyed.

Pietro Loria, who survived that infernal night, talks about his life. From his childhood in the small agricultural town of Poggioreale to his new life in Australia. In between, all the memories of a man who saw his town crumble in the space of a few hours.

The language spoken in this documentary is Sicilian. Switch on the subtitles in English or Italian and make sure to watch this video in HD.
