Move to Sicily and get your new house for less than 2 US Dollars
Buying a house in Sicily is truly a dream for many: the sun, the sea, the fantastic food, the friendly people and the breathtaking views. And the fantastic food, did we already mentioned that? For some time, a number of Sicilian villages including Salemi, Gangi, Mussomeli, Troina and Sambuca and many others have joined a new interesting project, with that aim to repopulate and redevelop their territory. But what is this project about? Well, long story short, to sell houses at the price of one euro. No way, right?
How does it work?
The rule at the base of this initiative is identical for all the adhering Municipalities, that is that the sale at the symbolic price of one euro (about 1 dollar and twenty cents) is finalized in fact to recover the historical centre of the villages mentioned above. But technically, how does it work? Can you really buy a house at such a low price?
The short answer is yes. You buy the house at one euro, but with the obligation to renovate it and pay the relevant municipal taxes. In this way, the villages become more beautiful and at the same time, they have new funds to invest – smart isn’t it?
But you have to hurry since this initiative is becoming more and more famous, also thanks to the coverage carried out by some of the most famous international newspapers and television stations and the interest in the project of some celebrities of international stature.
The last one in chronological order is this article published online with a focus on the charming village of Troina, where we read that “The Sicilian town of Troina joins the likes of Mussomeli and Zungoli and put dozens of abandoned homes on the market for less than the cost of an espresso coffee. In fact, local authorities are so eager to attract new residents to the city’s declining old quarter that they are offering to help with renovation costs for buyers who agree to take up residence.”
Troina was the first Norman capital of Sicily and is one of the most beautiful villages in Italy. The initiative precisely aims at the recovery of housing in the ancient medieval quarters. According to mayor Fabio Venezia “In recent months we have received many requests to purchase property in our historic centre from all over the world, including the United States, England, Germany, France, Belgium, Turkey, Brazil, Peru, Argentina and Holland, and many potential buyers have already come to visit the village of Troina, with the intent to buy a house to renovate it and to move in some time of the year. We have decided to set up a project that allows us to recover the many properties unfortunately abandoned, repopulating the old uninhabited neighbourhoods and, at the same time, offering a chance to restore the economy and local workers, who will be involved in the work of recovery”.
So what do you say, are you ready to take advantage of the low price to become the owner of a house in which to spend the vacations, or where to start your very own bed & breakfast?
Here’s another town offering free homes. The catch? You have to be under 30 years old!
