The American director ( director of Taxi Driver, Goodfellas and the most recent The Irishman ), screenwriter, actor and film producer, part of the New Hollywood wave of filmmaking, he is widely regarded as one of the most significant and influential filmmakers in cinematic history. Martin Scorsese is a naturalised Italian, as the grandparents, both paternal and maternal, were immigrants originally from Polizzi generosa and Ciminna (in the Palermo area), who arrived in America in the 20th century.
