Sicily will help to pay for foreign visitors’ holiday bills to revive its tourism industry after the coronavirus crisis
If there is one thing that can help Sicily restart after the lockdown caused by the Coronavirus, it is undoubtedly tourism. The crystal clear waters, the incomparable flavors of traditional recipes and unforgettable locations, will once again be the catalysts of a necessary regeneration of the Sicilian economy.
On this front, as for the one related to companies in other sectors but also to families, the Sicilian Government and its Department of Tourism is being courageously committed. The planned investments are 50 million euros that will help to get the system back on track with concrete help to operators in the sector, and also thinking about people who want to travel to get to know Sicily from close up.
For the tourists who chooses Sicily it will be possible to buy a voucher (the government is planning a possible symbolic rate of 20 euros) that will allow you to have in exchange services for 300 – 400 euros during your holiday in Sicily. By purchasing the voucher you can, for example, enjoy a free night in a hotel (if you book a minimum of three nights), or get tickets to travel by train or bus, visit a museum, go scuba diving or access an archaeological area.
But how exactly is this going to work?
Everything is still left to the approval of the Finanziaria, and if approved, the government of the Sicilian region will create an internet portal and an app where you can buy travel vouchers that, just like a prepaid card, will allow you to use the services made available by the network of operators that is being set up. Keep follow us, we will keep you posted when that will happen!
Keep us posted, love Sicily!
